Edwin is one of the founders of the Japanese denim school that took the American working cloth and brought it to artisanal perfection. The brand was born in post-war Tokyo, and its very name is a manifesto: EDWIN is an anagram of DENIM, with the M flipped upside down to become a W. While America was making denim cheaper, Japan began weaving it the old way, on slow looms, with a dense structure and dyeing that ages into beauty. The essence of the Japanese approach, however, lies in something other than effects: denim here is understood as a living material that writes its own diary through wear.
