YKRA is a Hungarian brand of stylish backpacks and accessories with a distinctive retro aesthetic inspired by 1970s outdoor gear. Founded in Budapest in 2011, it literally originated in the basement of a bar, where designer Balázs Lakatoš dreamed of bringing the nostalgia of mountains and nature into urban life. Each piece is handmade in Hungary from natural materials such as sturdy cotton canvas (from the Czech Republic) or Italian cowhide leather. YKRA is not afraid of collaborations—it regularly releases limited editions with distinctive prints by local illustrators and combines design with environmental themes. The brand prides itself on repairability and longevity, so it's not just about fashion, but also about attitude. YKRA is the spiritual child of Balázs Lakatos, who originally made backpacks just for himself. Subsequently, his wife, Judit and several friends, joined the process and in 2012 he saw a new energetic brand in the light of the world. Balazs was influenced by the colorful retro polyester fashion, so characteristic of the communist eastern block of the 1980s, in which he grew up. All products are produced using traditional processes while using the best possible materials. Backpacks are handcrafted in Hungary, where the long tradition of fine and quality craftsmanship comes from. This is not a big deal, so every backpack has its own soul and we enjoy it.
