KAVU Headwear
KAVU was founded in 1993 in Seattle by Barry Barr, a commercial fisherman and ship's captain from the Bering Sea, who sewed the first wind caps on the deck of his own boat.
The name comes from childhood: his father was a private pilot, and CAVU — Ceiling And Visibility Unlimited — was the household order to head outside.
Barry just swapped the C for a K.
That is exactly the mood the brand still sells today.
The most famous product is the Rope Bag, a crossbody bag with a rope strap that became the hallmark of people who treat the outdoors as joy, not a competitive discipline.
Add colourful caps, shirts and shorts in an aesthetic that doesn't play at expedition: KAVU clothing was made for days by the water, on the road and around the campfire, and it looks the part.
No patented membranes, no solemnity, just honest materials and colours that put you in a good mood.
In an outdoor industry obsessed with performance, KAVU has held the position of class joker for thirty years — one who, however, has done the homework.
Good weather energy, literally.
