WINQS is a German running brand that set itself a brief considered an oxymoron in the industry: build a performance running shoe from recycled and natural materials.
The running industry traditionally sacrifices sustainability at the altar of grams and rebound — a race shoe is a petroleum chemistry lab designed for a few hundred kilometres.
WINQS goes the opposite way: recycled and bio-based materials in both upper and cushioning, emphasis on repairability and longer lifespan, and open communication about what the shoe is made of and what impact it has, including compromises it cannot yet resolve.
It is precisely that openness that is refreshing: instead of greenwashing, an openly acknowledged balance sheet.
The portfolio covers training and racing, because the brand wants to prove that a shoe made from recycled material need not mean a slower run.
Running is the cleanest and most democratic sport in the world — all it takes is a body and shoes.
WINQS is working on the second half of the equation: shoes from recycled and natural materials.
