Collection: Got Bag Carry Bags

Got Bag from Mainz, Germany, entered the market with a bold thesis: a rucksack can be sewn from plastic that has already ended up in the sea. The brand built its own collection programme in Indonesia, in which local fishermen and collectors pull plastic waste from the water and coastal areas, and the cleaned material is spun into yarn for its rucksacks. The iconic Rolltop became the hallmark of an urban generation that cares about the origin of things. The story also has an instructive chapter: German investigative journalism previously questioned how large a share of the material actually comes directly from the sea, and the brand subsequently sharpened its communication towards the broader concept of plastic from threatened coastal areas. Since 2023 the brand has been B Corp certified. That is precisely why Got Bag is an interesting case even for a thoughtful customer: it shows how hard it is to clean the ocean industrially and how important accuracy is in what brands promise. The collection programme in Indonesia runs on regardless, employs local people, and gives plastic that would otherwise end up in the water or in a landfill a second life on someone's back in Berlin or Prague.
